REVIEW: 9 To 5 The Musical / Palace Theatre, Manchester

It’s fun, foot tapping and full of humour! Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 Musical based on the hit film of the same name opened in Manchester this week with an all star cast which dazzled throughout!

This quick-paced show has all the ingredients for musical greatness; a catchy score of music and lyrics written by Dolly Parton, superb routines and choreography and most importantly; a cast which work their socks off!

The lead roles are played by three very strong women - Louise Rednapp plays Violet Newstead energetically with move-perfect routines which make you look tired just watching. Georgina Castle is affirming as Doralee with excellent stage presence and Amber Davies took on the role of Judy and made a huge impact with the audience in Manchester in doing so. Davies created a instant connection with the crowd, having some of the best lines in the script and belting out vocals which were phenomenal and totally surprised me. This women can sing, really SING!

The supporting cast must be mentioned; Sean Needham as Franklin Hart played the role with just enough arrogance and cheek that the character demanded. Lucinda Lawrence as Roz also brought lots of humour to the production, a brilliant comedic actor while the remaining ensemble kept the show going filling in every role in between effectively. As the show has come from the West End, the staging is impressive and just what you’d expect from a big glitzy show - with over 70 computer screens framing the stage, video backdrop and a clever moving stage complimenting the show throughout.

9 to 5 - The Musical delivers everything you want out of a trip to the theatre - it’s a foot tapping, upbeat, gleeful experience you won’t want to miss!
